Botswana wins bid to host the 6th African federation of institutes of internal auditors
Botswana has won the bid to host the 6th African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors conference, making it the first Southern African country to ever host this event.
In proudly anticipating to host the continental event that will attract over 600 participants from all African countries, Margretmary Mushango, the President of the Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana (IIAB) which won the bid, said they look forward to hosting the event that will consider auditing systems and standards that will address some of Africa’s pertinent and recurring challenges such as the lack of good governance, cyber risks and corruption. Mushango highlighted this while addressing a pool of journalists in Gaborone, Botswana on Tuesday.
If governments are not governed well and do not manage their resources, Mushango said it is the ordinary citizen that suffers. When companies do not perform transparently and do not do well, she also said it is the people that suffer. Hence the need for internal auditors in all organisations who can suggest systems to address the anomalies. Every company Mushango said needs an internal auditor, but sadly that is not the case in Botswana.
Themed ‘The Future of Internal Audit is now. Assure. Advise. Anticipate’, the weeklong event that will be graced by President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana, seeks to share skills that will help organisations across Africa to accomplish their objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance process.
Moreover, IIAB as headed by Mushango, has committed itself to support President Masisi in all governance related matters for the subsequent benefit of Botswana citizens. The IIAB is an affiliate of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global, a professional body which is a non-profit organisation with the mandate to promote the development of the practice of internal auditing and setting of standards for which every practicing internal auditor must follow.
The 6th African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA) conference will be held in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital city from May 27 – 31, 2019. The last conference was held in Casablanca, Morocco.
