The Last Supper Consultation Meetings: Can We Still Feed Africa?

In collaboration with Africa Global Development for Positive Change (ADIAfrica), Botswana Society for Human Development (BSHD) is co-organising an International Conference on Food Systems & Sustainable Environment. The Food Dialogue scheduled for  November, 2022 is expected to attract hundreds of participants from all around the globe. These participants will include medium and large-scale farmers, potential investors, policy makers, researchers, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations—working on food security, climate change and environmental issues, among others.

The objectives of this conference are to: i) proffer urgent solutions to the current global food inflation rate, ii) discuss global food security and sustainable environment, iii) review current international food and agricultural policies and agreements, iv) discuss global impacts of climate change and conflict on food and agriculture activities  and v) create a platform through which farmers, government agencies, and international development agencies, among other relevant stakeholders, can dialogue and engage in sustainable agriculture and food security issues.

To inspire dialogue and engagement around the project themes, with the ADIAfrica delegation, we organised 3 day long consultation meetings and subsequently met with a group of 25 farmers and aspiring farmers at the Methodist church, then we had a Moringa Farm tour at Gamudubu (owned by Mr Hu), after which we met a drought resistant rice advocate, Mr Miles Nan.

On day two, we toured the LEA Horticulture facilities, followed by a meeting at BUAN.

Friday morning before seeing our delegation off to the airport we met with the Permanent Secretary at MOA.
